If you find yourself, for work or play, in Hong Kong this coming November, you’d be remiss to miss the 2012 Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival, which kicks off the first day of November and lasts for four fun-filled days and nights. Although places like Napa Valley or Tuscany may be the first to pop into your mind upon hearing the word “wine,” the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Month proves that this city not only knows about its wines, it is passionate about them, as well.

The first place you should visit is one of the most the popular destinations for foodie tourists, Lan Kwai Fong. Here you’ll find restaurant upon restaurant offering special food and wine pairings expertly concocted by Hong Kong’s leading chefs. In fact, the Festival really functions as a kick-off party to a month-long, citywide celebration of food and wine, and each year it has gained in popularity. Expect to rub elbows with local culinary experts and international sommeliers, with the hip youth of Hong Kong, and visiting dignitaries and business people.

Not as much of a wine expert as you thought? Never fear: during this four-day festival the city is hosting enough wine appreciation and cooking classes to allow you to earn a second degree in The Good Life. The festival’s main components, the wine tastings, the musical events, and the tables and tables of gourmet culinary delights, will all be found in a conveniently central location at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade, with an absolutely breathtaking view of the harbor as the backdrop. Be sure to start your visit at the Tasting Pavilion, and check on the website for the Themed Nights, allowing you ample time to sample wines you’ve never tried, and gourmet treats and chocolates from all over the world. There is that saying, “In Vino Veritas,” in wine there is truth. The truth is, Hong Kong’s Wine and Dine Festival is fast establishing itself as an internationally recognized epicurean tour de force, Forbes Traveler naming the Festival one of the best 10 Wine Festivals in the world in 2010. Cross off that to-do list from November 1 – 4, and make visiting the Hong Kong Wine and Dine your top priority.
