A new Parisian-styled bistro in Hong Kong is shining light on an otherwise scantly lit corner of SoHo, on the west end of Staunton Street. Contemporary and inviting, La Marmite is the latest offering by the Aqua Restaurant Group, which also own Hutong, Aqua Roma etc…

The two-storey restaurant is decked out in cheerful white and cream, with pale green stained wood adding texture. Already enjoying relative spaciousness for a SoHo venue, ample use is made of mirrors and floor to ceiling windows (which open in warm weather for alfresco seating) to create a sense of even greater capacity.

Named after the cast-iron cooking pot used in France for cooking hearty dishes, La Marmite serves classic bistrot dishes rotated weekly on a blackboard menu, as well as daily specials depending on the season. Some of the recommended dishes include lobster bisque with side of tempura green vegetables in yuzu salt, the signature foie gras crème brûlée, the Steak tartare au couteau accompagné de frites “maison” et de salade, the Grilled Sirloin with sautéed potatoes, French beans and jus, the Seafood linguine with lobster cream sauce, the tarte tatin, crème caramel and a riz au lait (rice pudding) to name a few. The wine list is quite good with typical French wines with no exception and I’m sure you’ll love the fact that is quite affordable.

If you’re worried about authenticity in this Parisian-styled bistro, you’ll be happy to know that behind La Marmite is a stellar all-French team, including Head Chef Renaud Marin, Michelin-star Chef Philippe Orrico, Pastry Chef Alexis Watrin and Maitre d’ David Noblet.

La Marmite strives to offer its customers no frills, hearty and authentic French cuisine without emptying the wallet. Bespoke concierge company, Pure Entertainment Group recommends the Parisian-styled bistro La Marmite on your next visit to Hong Kong.
