Contemporary Japanese Cuisine in Dubai: Zuma Restaurant

The next time you visit Dubai, make sure you find time to dine at Zuma, a unique Japanese restaurant located in the heart of Dubai’s International Financial Center. In a global city like Dubai, Zuma Dubai holds its own as a favorite restaurant and bar among locals and jetsetters alike, and it’s about time we introduced you!

German-born chef Rainer Becker developed the Zuma during his six years spent working in Tokyo mastering Japanese cuisine and learning about the culture. Opening his first Zuma restaurant in London in 2002, Becker unveiled his Dubai property in 2009. Zuma Dubai follows the Japanese Izakaya style of dining, a casual yet sophisticated dining atmosphere, where food is served to share and is steadily brought to the table throughout the experience, which makes it the perfect place for business lunches, casual rendezvous with friends, and chic nights out.

Designed by the Tokyo-based Noriyoshi Muramatu of studio Glitt and featuring hard-carved granite counters, awing bamboo sculptures, and salvaged rusted-steel walls, the restaurant, situated over two floors, is a harmonious balance of the six elements of fire, earth, water, air, wood, and iron. In addition to a main dining area, a sushi counter, and a robata grill, Zuma Dubai also boasts an elegant private room, named Wabi and Sabi (traditionally meaning “the natural beauty of imperfection, and the beauty in natural imperfection,”) which can hold a party of up to 20 guests. For a perfect pairing to your meal, we highly recommend visiting Zuma’s wine and sake cellar, where guests are always welcome to meet the team of sommeliers and discover some of the world’s finest wines, champagnes, and hot and cold sakes.

Zuma Dubai is an essential addition to your “must-do” list when visiting Dubai. A contemporary spin on tradition, the restaurant and bar infuses laidback elegance into lunch, happy hour, and beyond. If, however, a trip to Dubai is not in your foreseeable plans, don’t fret: we can always make a reservation for you at any of the four other Zuma restaurants currently open in London, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and Miami, with two more opening in very soon in Beirut and Bangkok. What should you order at Zuma Dubai? The black cod, it goes without saying, is divine. We can also recommend the salmon and tuna tartar with sevruga caviar, along with the thinly sliced seabass with yuzu, truffle, oil and salmon roe.
