Those who wear it haven’t received the best reputation, “Four eyes”, “Nerd Herder”. Thankfully, as tastes in fashion and style continue to become more progressive and some say, more inclusive, top designers are finally looking at the rows of preppy collegiate sartorial trends and saying, “Hey, we need stylish prescription glasses to fit the intellectual looks.” Here are some of the top looks from Fall Winter 2010 from seven iconic brands:

Montblanc

MB298, col. 001: Gold arms with inlaid genuine carbon fibre. The front, squared and wide, is produced from acetate and comes in black, Havana brown and stripy Havana grey.
The new Montblanc Eyewear collection for Autumn/Winter stands out for perfect ressonance between elegance and modernity. The bevelled edges and shininess of the acetate brings to mind the luxurious enamelled effect of their much beloved writing implements.

Just Cavalli

JC282 col.009: The lively yellow on the inside of the frames stands in eye grabbing contrast to the satinised grey on the outside. Take note of the smooth rubber texture.
Just Cavalli’s Autumn Winter eyewear collection is designed with contemporary appeal and youthful style in mind. Clean cut but never severe, the frames are rather minimalist in form, perfect yet dynamic enough for sports or work. Great for the young and glamorous thanks to oh so chic la la colour accents.

Timberland Earthkeepers

Making their first ever debut, Timberland Earthkeepers is an eyewear collection that touts eco-consciousness. Made from plant oil plastics and bamboo, this special project with Macrolin is a unique opportunity for fashion conscious intellectuals to show off their luxurious yet green credentials.

DSQUARED2

The Caten twins have broken new ground once more with the first Dsquared2 glasses collection this autumn winter. From retro to modern designs all keeping with the basic DNA of the brand, their prescription frames give wearers a striking and unconventional look. Italian originality and sartorial tastes at its best, this collection of eyewear is sexy and extravagant with close attention to detail and materials.

Replay

REPLAY’s AW2010 collection is a refreshingly original take on basic glasses. The stylishly worked arms are covered with regular little pyramids attained from incisions in the plastic. The dark blue acetate is accented by lively yellow trim on the frame front. Metallic Replay brand label adds a touch of elegance to an otherwise rock-chic affair.

Ferrari

We’ll be honest and say that we’re not fans of men wearing striking red eyewear. That said, we were pleasantly surprised with the simple, zen-like design of this matte black acetate piece from within the Ferrari eyewear collection.

Tom Ford

These optical frames that epitomize the values at the core of TOM FORD EYEWEAR: refined design, intelligent glamour, and innovative details. There’s a reason Nicholas Hoult is not looking at the very fine and very naked Anna Jagodzinska. He’s looking at the rest of the collection.
