The House of Martell, founded in 1715 and oldest of the great Cognac houses, is delighted to be associated with the restoration of the Queen’s Antechamber of the Grand Couvert, where the magnificent pomp and pleasure of dining at Versailles was played out in all its splendor. With this patronage, Martell has played an active role in preserving one of the world’s unique architectural treasures and demonstrated its passion for outstanding gastronomy and the French “art de vivre“.

The partnership between Martell and the Palace of Versailles began in 2007 with the exhibition “When Versailles was furnished in silver”, which presented a collection of historical silverware and brought the splendor of court back to life.

It continued with Martell’s support for the restoration of the Queen’s Antechamber, which began in spring 2009. This sponsorship is part of Martell’s wider programme of cul- tural partnerships in France and in- ternationally. Versailles and Martell are two of the seventy five emblematic French “Houses” and eleven institutions that make up the famous Colbert Commit- tee, created in 1954 by Jean-Jacques Guerlain, with the aim of promoting French luxury at home and around the world. The Colbert Committee’s motto – “create, excel, amaze” – reflects the values of both the Palace of Versailles and of Martell.
