We all know that our sense of smell and our sense of taste are linked, however two popular brands have collaborated on a dedicated collection to showcase the intersection between two other important senses. Oliver Peoples, the American luxury eyewear brand founded in 1986 by Ken Schwartz and Larry Leight, and Byredo, the Stockholm-based fragrance house established in 2006 by Ben Gorham, have announced a partnership that will bring about a fantastic collaborative collection of limited edition sunglass and fragrance combinations, stimulating your sense of sight and smell all in one collection.
This summer, Stockholm and West Hollywood unite to produce a niche collection inspired by the phenomenon “‘synesthesia,” the joint perception of senses, whereby the stimulation of one sense can involuntarily produce an association with an entirely different one. While this is certainly an unlikely-yet-innovative collaboration, it also makes sense at a fundamental level; both brands place a strong focus on craftsmanship and quality, and share similar views on aesthetic and brand positioning. The unisex collection was created through very unique means: Byredo’s master perfumer interpreted the sights and feelings of Los Angeles through different coloured lenses, and converted them into aromas, which resulted in a multi-faceted fragrance. This original interpretation translated to an original frame designed by Oliver Peoples, where the lens colours align with the scent of the custom-created Byredo fragrance.
The limited edition Oliver Peoples acetate frames are available in two frame colours, Semi Matte Black and Beige Crystal, and three different photochromic lens colours, including Indigo, Champagne and Green. The fragrance bottle, which of course, matches the lenses, will also be available in indigo, champagne, and green. The fragrance and sunglasses can be purchased separately, or as a box set with a custom-made case and pouch. The box set is currently available exclusively at Barneys New York, and the limited edition Oliver Peoples and Byredo sunglass and fragrance will arrive in select stores the beginning of May 2015.
