Molori Safari Lodge, South Africa: A wonderful Game Reserve
Molori Safari Lodge, South Africa: A wonderful Game Reserve

I remember watching the Lion King as a child and falling in love with Africa’s beauty through cartoon; I promised myself that I would visit Africa and go on a game drive. Never in a million years would I have ever thought that a place as magical as Molori Safari Lodge existed, where I can make that childhood dream a reality, with some grown-up luxury.

Perhaps Africa’s most luxurious game reserve, Molori Safari lodge had it’s beginnings in 2002 as the owners’ personal family sanctuary. Built in the core of the 75,000 hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, the owners decided to give the lodge an elegant facelift and opened the property to discerning travelers who seek complete privacy to achieve full relaxation and marvel at the circle of life surrounding the magnificent property.

Located 400kms northwest of Johannesburg and bordering Botswana, the Molori lodge can accommodate between 10 to 14 guests in its 5 suites, each carrying a beautiful name with a special Setswana meaning, and each capturing the earthy essence of Africa. Each of the 5 suites is carefully distanced so you’ll always feel like you’re on your very own personal game reserve. With interiors by Kirk Lazarus, all of the suites have floor-to-ceiling retractable glass walls, which fold away completely to reveal an infinity pool and private terrace overlooking the reserve. You’ll even have your own telescope for star-gazing in whichever suite you decide to make your sanctuary.

The Molori Safari Lodge boasts two Premier Suites, Ngwedi and Lesedi, each 232 square meters. The Ngwedi, which means moon in seTswana, has a gorgeous free-standing copper bath, while the Lesedi, meaning light, boasts a marvelous cylindrical floor-to-ceiling fireplace. Sephiri, meaning secret, is the executive suite of the lodge. With 307 square meters of space, this room has a little secret of its own: it is the only suite which has 2nd floor bedroom and this bedroom has its own private entrance and en-suite bathroom, and features it’s very own terrace. The two Presidential Suites Metsi (593 square meters,) meaning water, and Molelo (619 square meters,) meaning fire, each give you the ultimate luxury: they have 24 hour butler service, and to add to the charm of these beautiful rooms, feature an extensive library of National Geographic magazines dating back to the 1940s. The Molelo Suite is the ultimate private sanctuary: the master bedroom and second bedroom are located on opposite ends of the suite. This ensures that you can always have a quiet moment to yourself to reflect on the beauty of the lodge and reserve whenever you like.

Dining at the Molori Safari Lodge is unlike any other retreat you have ever experienced. Their gourmet chefs discuss more meals with guests before preparing them, ensuring that everything is to your taste. Using only the freshest, guests can select their ingredients from the Lodge’s organic garden, or from the finest ingredients flown in from Johannesburg. Guests can dine at their choice of breathtaking venues on the property, from the Star Deck, to the Boma; I’d love to dine under the stars on the Star Deck, which overlooks the watering hole, but I know I’d be too busy watching the elephants, who flock there to drink fresh water!

With the beautiful rooms and amazing food specially prepared for the guests, you must think that the Molori Safari Lodge is a dream, but don’t forget the real magic: the 75,000 hectare reserve! Featuring great elephant herds, black and white rhino, over 340 species of bird, many lion prides, the brown hyena, the endangered cheetah, and countless other animals, Molori Safari Lodge offers game drives twice a day, night drives, and guided safari walks. You really need to experience each of these to truly feel the rush of African wildlife; it’s unlike any other and you will never forget those lovely encounters! You can always enjoy Molori’s observatory, which boasts one of the largest privately owned telescopes in Southern Africa, to see a little glimpse of heaven, or as close as you may get to seeing heaven on earth: the Southern Hemisphere’s wondrous night sky. That will for sure make for sweet dreams!

The word “Molori” means “to dream” in seTswana and that’s exactly what the Molori Safari Lodge is: a child’s dream to sleep with the animals, with a grown-ups fantasy of luxury and privacy. The Molori Safari Lodge is the retreat of A-list celebrities such as Kate Moss, Misha Barton, UK singer/model Lilly Allen and many more.
